Finding the Balance in Your Breath

Use Finding the Balance in Your Breath to lift yourself up or calm yourself down. This guided meditation with beautiful music in the background guides you to draw in vibrant, life-giving energy with your in-breath and release unwanted energy with your out-breath. Listeners tell me that this guided meditation helps them to find more balance and peace in their lives. You can use it any time of the day for a refreshing break or at night to fall into a deep and replenishing sleep.

Thoughts on Meditation

It's amazing to me how many people have thanked me over the last few days for teaching them the value of intentional breathing.

A dear friend whose mother passed away last week thanked me for the awareness of focusing on the breath because through the week she often found herself not breathing or even panicking. In her sorrow and confusion, she recognized the importance of taking a few minutes to focus on her breath and moved herself to greater equilibrium. She did it many times, knowing that it's a process.

A client experienced a trauma and found himself breathless and then dizzy. He concluded that his state of non-breathing cut off his oxygen supply, making him so out of balance he was dizzy. The dizziness got his attention so strongly that he sat down and focused on his breathing. As we talked about this experience afterwards, he recognized that before the dizziness he was uncomfortable and having a hard time thinking. He knows now to start the intentional breathing earlier.

Two other people, who are both in a company I do lots of coaching and consulting, called to tell me about the same situation, each upset about how the decision had impacted her. Neither was complaining, only using me as a thought partner to breathe through the situation and find a better perspective to view the situation and a more solid place to proceed.

When you let your breath be the focus of your attention for brief periods throughout the day, you'll be more balanced and empowered. Remember, it's easier to get back to a state of balance when you're just a little off balance. When being off-balance affects you physically, you can still return to your center, but it may take longer.

I encourage you to not be tolerant about being just a little off balance. Attend to your balance as soon as you notice you're off. You have nothing to gain by proving you can "tough it out" and you potentially have a lot to lose. When you're practiced with this, it only takes a few seconds. Maybe longer, like minutes. The alternative time frames might be months or years. Just pause and breathe. Or, keep moving and focus on your breath.
